ヘコアユ
Scientific name： Aeoliscus strigatus

Razorfish are closely related to seahorses. They form schools and inhabit shallow waters, such as coral reefs and seagrass beds. They swim in a very distinct way, vertically, with their head downwards. Its body is thin and leaf-like, and in the Okinawan language, it is called ki-nu haiyu, meaning leaf-like fish.

Razorfish born in this aquarium in June 2025 reached 5 to 7 cm in length one year after hatching. The juveniles are still smaller than their parents, but eat just as vigorously, and are growing daily. Look out for the school of razorfish at the aquarium, and see if you can spot the juveniles among the adults.
